Spider Performance Sails

for

The Serious Competitor

Hopefully this web site provides information that will make it easier to make a decision when it comes to replacing your sails.

Spider Sails produces sails for the Soling One Meter classs only.

Many of us that now race RC sail boats raced full sized  boats when we were younger. Those of us that were able to do a lot of racing in those days remember the need to have a really nice set of fresh and crispy, or better yet a new set of sails, particularly if we were going to a serious event such as a National Championship. Things haven't really changed much. A new set of sails can make big difference in your performance , even today. Fortunately we are not faced with needing new sails for each event but, being serious competitors we certainly know that the sails we use must be in excellent condition throughout  the season.

At Spider Sails we have taken a lesson or two from the knowledge of the major sail makers such as North Sails, Quantum etc. Selling sails is a very competitive business. In order to keep ahead of the market and the competition these companies spend significant amounts of money on research, using the latest technology in order to produce an advanced sail cloth that offers real improvements in performance. Their success has been obvious in the last few years.

Fortunately we have been able to take advantage of this improved technology in the selection of the type of sail cloth that we use in Spider Sails.

We have a special situation that must be addressed when producing sails for the Soling One Meter Class. These sails must be made flat and from a single piece of fabric. Almost all other sails are paneled enabling the sail maker to build in an efficient shape that will be maintained through all of the different wind conditions encountered. We, however must accomplish excellent performance using a single flat panel of sail cloth.

You'll find more information here about our Spider Performance Sails, how our designs were developed, the sail fabric that we use, its weight, how we reinforce the corners, construction, how to set up your sails, and much more.

There is also a page that includes information on 3 oz Dacron sails. which are the same as those supplied with the Victor Soling One Meter kit. On the same page you will find information on Carbon fibre cloth, the strongest and lightest material that is ideal for reinforcing the hull of your Soling One Meter.

Taking an idea from the rules of many full size one design sail boats, we have created a certification method that will provide our customers with a guarantee that the sails covered by the certificate meet all of the requirements of the Soling One Meter class. Hopefully this will reduce some of the concerns of a Race Committee about the legality of the sails.

Having ordered a set of Spider sails it is important that they be properly attached and rigged to your mast and boat. The page Attach Sails covers most of what you need to know in order to get the most out of your sails.

The Shipping / Returns page  will give you information on how we ship, and what to do to return something. You will also find the  shipping costs on this page.
